$5 for a comedy skit by Louis C.K. raises $1M in 12 days

Belinda Philp - Saturday, December 31, 2011

If you made $1M in 12 days by 'being a professional asshole' and I must state CLEVER!  Would you GIVE $280,000 of it to charity?

Warning: GoodieDo supports the cause not necessarily the content of this special performance

Just by cutting out the middle man in promotions and setting up his own website and offering his latest stand up special: Live at the Beacon to fans online for $5 Comedian Louis C.K. hit the million dollar mark in sales on day 12 of its release.

Louis told fans "That's alot of money. Really too much money. I've never had a million dollars all of a sudden. and since we're all sharing this experience and since it is really your money......I want to set an example of what you can do if you all of a sudden have a million dollars that people just gave to you directly because you told jokes."

He is breaking the million into four pieces.

1. 250k will pay back what the special cost to produce and to build the website

2. 250k for staff and the people working with Louis C.K. on the special show. 'I'm giving them a big fat bonus.'

3. 280k split between the following charities The Fistula Foundation, The Pablove Foundation, charity:water, micro lending through Kiva, Green Chimneys.

4. 220k for himself. "Some of that will pay my rent and will care for my children. The rest I will do terrible, horrible things with and none of that is any of your business. In any case, to me, 220k is enough out of a million."

Fans can feel great that they have not only got a side splitting show for their $5 they have also helped a talented person give forward in their purchase to bettering the world.

When we talk about conscious consumerism this is a GREAT example.

Looking for a cheap night in a way to give more to charity and a good laugh then BUY THE THING!

P.S If being an asshole makes Louis C.K. another million he has pledged to give more of it away. "If it pools up around me, it needs to be flushed back into the system".

A Street Party on Christmas Day still being talked about....

Belinda Philp - Monday, December 26, 2011

With DJ's rocking tunes, FREE christmas lunch with all of the trimmings, market stalls, coffee carts a visit from Santa and plenty of laughter and cheer.

Oh AND 250 volunteers on the day to help everything run smoothly.

Who would run such an event? I hear you ask.

The Wayside Chapel under the banner of 'Love over Hate'.

Their programs and services ensure that the most marginalized members of the community have access to essential health, welfare, access to social and recreational services and a place where people can just 'be'.

And the best part is ANYONE can attend:

  • If you don't have anyone to spend Christmas day with
  • If you have family but would rather not spend the day with them
  • If you are traveling on your own at Christmas
  • Or if you are just looking for a party with a larger group than your own

The best bit is local businesses and volunteers donate time, money, christmas gifts food, seats, tables, marquees to make this day happen.

To check out some fun photos of the day see them here.

If you are looking to do more for Christmas, here is an amazing way you can contribute

  1. Be a volunteer
  2. Donate some food
  3. Donate some gifts
  4. Or come along and share your energy for the day

This Christmas Street Party is on every year so pop it in your calendar for next year.

Where: The Wayside Chapel, 29 Hughes St, Potts Point, NSW, Sydney, Australia.

Wishing you a fabulous festive season from GoodieDo and sharing inspiring stories of Good People Doing Good Things! Share your stories of GREAT doings with us on our facebook page.

Look out World for 2012 for some AMAZING stuff!!!

P.S If you attended this event we would love to share your comments, please leave below or on our facebook page.

A new mobile phone for Christmas?

Belinda Philp - Thursday, December 22, 2011

A commodity that many of us now find difficult to live without.

What did you request an iPhone 4S, a Sony Erikson Xperia Arc, a HTC Evo 3D?

What are you doing with your old phone? Donate it to MobileMuster. These guys collect old mobile phones and recycle 90% of the materials in the phone.

Here's what can be reused:

  • Batteries: include cobalt and cadmium which can be recovered to make new batteries
  • Battery casings: include nickel which can be recovered to make stainless steel
  • Circuit boards: include small amounts of gold and silver that can be used to make jewelry
  • Handset housings and casings: include plastics that are shredded and used to make fence posts and pallets.
  • Accessories: include plastics and metals that are shredded and sorted and used to make new plastic and metal products.

Mobile phones are not biodegradable and potentially harmful substances can leach into the environment from them if they are not properly disposed of.

Australian's get a new phone around every 18 to 24 months on average. What happens to all the old ones?

MobileMuster's 'Old phones, more trees' Campaign has recycled 149,000kg of mobile phones and accessories and has enabled Landcare groups to plant more than 255,000 trees across Australia.

They are even linked with Oxfam and donate chickens to families in need from donated phones.

It is sooo easy, mobilemuster even provide you with FREE postage.

When you decide it's time to ask Santa for a new modern day commodity of communication- YES a mobile phone.

Then dispose of your old one thoughtfully.

  1. There are loads of locations you can drop it; including Officeworks, Dick Smith Electronics, Optus Shops, Battery World, just take a look at their website,
  2. OR Download their free mailing label and mail it for FREE.
  3. Feel amazing about simply deciding to dispose of your trash thoughtfully.
  4. You have probably helped a family in need get a few chickens Or grown a tree.

WELLDONE!!!

Now ask Santa for that new phone before Christmas arrives. (It would have to be an iPhone 4 wouldn't it?) Please excuse the bad language in this video. A little one eyed shoppers humor.

Fundraising over a coffee....at Charlie Lovett Cafe

Belinda Philp - Monday, December 19, 2011

Can business be a WIN WIN WIN situation with joint ventures?

You bet YA!

Here's a great example, a perfect business day yesterday for GoodieDo.

1. The day involved; GoodieDo hosting a market stall at Charlie Lovett Cafe Neutral Bay alongside 5 local stalls offering organic, wholesome, handmade services and products.
I had a jig to some live music, drank some amazing coffee and mingled with the local Neutral Bay community. (We even had a Hong Kong paddling contingent come and join us for the day). I met amazing people from all over the world who connected well with GoodieDo's product, empowering people globally. FUN FUN FUN and of course providing people with much needed, beautiful Christmas gifts!

2. Charlie Lovett added EXTRA VALUE to their customers in offering them GREAT products and services ontop of food and coffee. Celebration was in the air.

3. Redlands School; The lucky recipient of Charlie Lovett's fundraiser made 30% of GoodieDo's sales for the day for the school music department. Without doing anything, just being who they are. FUNDRAISING made easy!!!

4. Pavla and Shane the owners of Charlie Lovett Neutral Bay LOVE up and coming talented musicians AND ADMIRE music teacher David Day's efforts in support young musicians; thus chose REDLANDS SCHOOL MUSIC DEPT. as a worthy cause to raise funds for.

So maybe it should be a WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN..............and on and on.

Let me list WHO got some great value from this joint venture:

  • the environment - recycled, organic materials
  • The artisans who make GoodieDo products and their immediate communities
  • Charlie Lovett
  • Charlie Lovett customers
  • Shane and Pavla feel great about supporting a great cause and hosting a great day
  • the people receiving the GoodieDo gifts bought
  • the people purchasing the GoodieDo products feel great about giving and empowered product
  • GoodieDo got to reach out and help local and global communities
  • I had a great experience with great people and got to share the GoodieDo word
  • Redlands School music department
  • Redlands School students who love and study music

If fundraising can be so much FUN and so EMPOWERING to such a large group of people just through one campaign. Imagine how many people's lives you can POSITIVELY touch with your own fundraising campaign???

Go on state the number out loud. Is it 100? 500? 1000? 2000? 50 000?

All you have to do is think of a cause you are passionate about and become a GoodieDo fundraiser to share the gift of giving with everyone you LOVE!!!

Did I mention GoodieDo's fundraising technology is about to get a turbo injection?

It will be even easier to connect and share your message of GOODNESS with the world while raising funds to DO your own GOOD STUFF!

P.S. Go on raising funds for you to do good is a WIN WIN WIN thing to do

P.P.S Just fill in the FORM and then share your campaign with EVERYONE you LOVE.
