Inspiring stories about GOOD people doing GOOD things

First World Problems Song written by two year 11 students

Belinda Philp - Sunday, December 16, 2012

Jack Frerer and Bradley Kent both in year 11 at Redlands School, Sydney needed to raise $750 each to travel to Cambodia on an annual school expedition to help build houses for underprivileged families.

During the July school holidays the two Redlands music students grabbed a guitar a microphone and computer and sat and wrote some lyrics and some tunes about PROBLEMS people are facing today. Not third world problems but FIRST world problems!

Hmm are we all guilty of it. Running out of milk and the corner store is already shut, or the electricity is turned off for a day and you cannot send that urgent email. AAAH these petty frustrations. When others are facing REAL problems everyday. Adequate food, shelter, education, rape, clean water just to name a few.

Jack and Bradley talk about our cell phone batteries going flat, the plane getting delayed by 15mins and other comical FIRST WORLD problems.

This song was aired on 702/ABC radio with the boys being interviewed about their creation of this song.

They successfully raised $1500 through the sale of a CD with 8 songs on it to their families, supporters and friends.

LISTEN to this ulta cool song here: FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS (Studio version) for just the song

OR FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS (Live in the Blue room) for the interview with the boys and a live version of the song.

Great job Bradley and Jack. We are very excited for Charlie Lovett's recent fundraising donation to support future music artists from Redlands School!

Here's a dose of Empowerment ZING! It's called GOOD RETURN

Belinda Philp - Friday, July 13, 2012

It is said that feeling of ZIING!!! when you do something GOOD for someone is really GOOD for your health.

HOW CAN THIS BE?

It massages the heart the brain, balances hormones and is reported to improve depression and heart disease.

The notion of donations has changed!!!!

Give something and get something EVEN BETTER back in return!!!

Looking to do something GOOD, get the ZING and get something for your buck???

Let me introduce you to Goodiedo's newest fundraiser GOOD RETURN.

Good Return provide micro loans to women in South East Asia who are actively bettering their own lives to start or build a business. These women have already taken the initial necessary steps to create change.

THE PROBLEM: Elma from the Philippines needs $300 to buy more piglets to breed and sell for a small profit to send her children to school AND you need some ZING!
HOW YOU CAN BE PART OF THE SOLUTION AND GET YOUR ZING?

OPTION 1: Buy a gift for someone you love or yourself from Good Returns fundraiser page and 30% of your purchase will go toward Elma's loan for piglets. (knowing the product is good for the planet, good for communities and good for giving)

OPTION 2: SHARE Good Returns fundraising profile on facebook (choose a thumbnail you like) and comment about what you would like someone to buy for you and a wish to Elma. For the chance to win a $50 gift certificate from Good Return to give toward Elma's loan or any other women you choose from Good Returns loanees.

Good Return even offers lenders to partially fund a loan. E.g. $20 could go towards someone growing crops for their family. The BEST thing with Good Return is YOU GET your money back if you WANT. When the loan is paid back by the lender; 99% of lenders pay their loans back and then take subsequent loans OR you can choose to redonate it to another loan or to Good Return for training and education of loanees.

Get your ZING factor by Giving and RECEIVING more than you give. That feeling of helping another to live a better life is more valuable than coins in your wallet.

Or do the shopping you were going to do anyway and get your ZING knowing 30% of your purchase is going to Elma and the rest is going to other good global causes. i.e empowered, ethical employment, enviro friendly production, building schools in Uganda or a myriad of goodness. (A peak at some products to choose from below)

Step1: FEEL GOOD- Share a message to Elma and your friends on facebook- to win a $50 gift voucher from Good Return

Step 2: FEEL AMAZING and Buy that gift you have been meaning to and have it posted straight to your friends door through GOOD returns fundraiser profile and GoodieDo donate 30% of your purchase price to Elma for pigs.

Choose either step and you will be sure to get your ZING for the day!

Wishing you Great health and lots of ZING always!

Handmaking original gift cards IS IMPROVING disadvantaged Balinese women's lives

Belinda Philp - Saturday, May 19, 2012

You can help disadvantaged women who have been trapped in a cycle of poverty to financially provide for their families and pave the way to a BRIGHTER future by purchasing these gorgeous handmade gift cards by Bebas cards.

It takes guts to move to another country, see an opportunity for others to live a better life. Commit to and carry out a project that empowers others.

Bianca Zietsch at Bebas cards has done just that!

Moved to Bali, fallen in LOVE with the people, seen their every day financial struggles, witnessed the unfair labor of women sewing beads on garments tirelessly all day to be paid $1 for their labour, while the garment is sold overseas for over $100 and decided to DEDICATE her efforts to helping women like Ibu Komang.

Ibu, her husband and daughter Dia lived in a koskosan( a small building housing many poor families). She has recently had to return to her village to help her sick and blind elderly parents. There is little work in the village and her husband makes a measley $70 a month. Ibu is very grateful to make some extra much needed funds through the Bebas card project to help look after her parents and start a small business raising ducks on her village.

Stella Adler once said 'Life beats down and crushes the soul and art reminds you that you have one'

'An artist cannot fail, it is a success to be one' - Charles Horton Cooley

Bebas cards are helping hundreds of people affected by poverty find meaningful well paid work which helps entire communities.

Help yourself by purchasing a pack of 5 cards for $22aud or one for only $4.50aud

Know that this card is made from recycled cardstock and has made a massive difference in the artists life.

I bought a stack of Bebas cards for myself. When you touch and feel them you get a tingle inside. So sending them with a special message to someone you love that feeling of giving is multiplied a million times!!!

These beauties hit ALL of our DO GOOD CRITERIA

GOOD for Women

GOOD for the Earth

GOOD for Communities

GOOD for Cultural preservation

GOOD for Giving

Buy a pack of 5 today for $22aud or $176hkd to give you peace of mind knowing you have gorgeous gift cards handy.

Or buy one for your EXTRA SPECIAL person for only $4.50aud or $36hkd

WAKE UP Sydney, WAKE UP Hong Kong, WAKE UP festival....just WAKE UP!

Belinda Philp - Thursday, April 26, 2012

Described as a Kindness Revolution

Kindness toward ourselves, each other and the natural world

Their mission is simple: To WAKE UP the best part of yourself! To stop living like a zombie just going through the motions of life.

What or Who is

A growing group of a few thousand people in Sydney who are anonymously doing kind things for others.

And thanks to Jono Fisher the founder of wake up Sydney this group is now exposed to inspirational live events

Uplifting speakers + film + meditation + musicians

Inspiring you to live your best life!

*Sustainability *Yoga Organics *Conscious business *Artistry *Media *Meditation *Social Justice *Wisdom Traditions *Transformations *Wellness *Generosity

All this with a BIG vision for Sydney to be the KINDNESS CAPITAL of the world.

I recently heard about this new Tribe through a friend of the founder and was invited to a film night to see 'Finding Joe'.
My whole experience with Wake Up Sydney has been amazing!
From booking my ticket and subscribing to be a member of the Tribe.
  • I received free Kindness cards in the mail with a personal handwritten note by Jono
  • The show was SOLD OUT with 800 seats within about 7 days
  • We meditated as a group of 800 for 10-15 minutes and thanked the world for our gifts before the film started- in a beautiful large cinema in Randwick, Sydney. Everyone clapped at the end of the film.
  • Finding Joe was a documentary/fairytale story told by world leaders about being the HERO in your your own life by finding your BLISS.
Jono explains how kindness cards came about:

This is a great inspiring group to be a part of!

If you are looking to be a part of a positive, inspired group of people who are leading acts of kindness around the world then
  1. Join the tribe today to hear about when great films and events are on or when FREE inspirational videos are uploaded to to the Wake UP Sydney site
  2. Anyone can join the WAKE UP Festival in the Rocky Mountains in Canada Aug 22-26, 2012( Hosted by Sounds True- the promo video is amazing! See Below)
  3. Perform a random act of kindness and feel amazing E.g. Drop a movie voucher in your neighbors letter box, bake a cake and leave it at work, pay for someone's meal, arrange a yoga pass for a friend, buy an eco or fair trade present, leave groceries on someone's doorstep

It doesn't really matter where you live. Anyone can receive the gift of this movement simply by joining the tribe and being part of creating a POSITIVE world!

Wishing you much love and kindness for the coming week.

If GOOD karma is created through every choice you make. And you already know that every choice you make has some impact on the world. Then wouldn't you choose to feel amazing through every purchase on many more levels than one?

E.g. Scenario 1

You buy a fashionable new top.

1. You feel good because it is new

2. You feel good because you look good in it.

3. You have NO idea where it was manufactured or the working conditions of the people who manufactured it. Are they happy?

4. You have NO idea of the materials it is made from. Are they synthetics or plastics, are they good for your health to be wearing ALL day? Have the dyes used polluted precious environments where it is manufactured?

VERSUS

Scenario 2

You buy a fashionable new top from a company you know cares about the environment and the health/happiness of its workers

1. You feel good because it is new and you look good in it

2. You feel good because you know your purchase has helped someone live a better life

3. You feel good because you are educated about your purchase and have made an empowered choice

4. You look even MORE AMAZING because you have the bonus feel good factors of being educated, positively contributing to society and being healthy because the materials are all natural or organic, and the positive energy in making the garment is passed onto its wearer.

WOW WOW WOW FACTOR!!!!

GoodieDo can even ADD one more additional FEEL GOOD factor!!!

5. Buy your garment through a GoodieDo fundraiser and 30% of your purchase price will go towards their DO GOOD cause. Which might be: Running a marathon for cancer, funding micro loans for developing nations women to build business, school programs anything GOOD.

Mantra scarf GIVEAWAY! Be AWARE and wrap yourself in whatever you need!

Candice Vleugels - Tuesday, April 03, 2012

Do you have a fuzzy mind or lack of focus?

Do you want to reconnect with your love for yourself and your life?

Do you need to feel that everything will be ok and have more compassion for yourself and where you are right now?

Are you lacking the courage to take that giant leap to bring yourself closer to your fullest potential?

Are you unable to tap into your intuition and the knowledge in uncertain times?

I find myself answering, "Yes!" to just about all of these questions. Right now my family and I are going through a huge transition in our lives, as we are in the process of moving from our long-time home (of over 9 years) in Hong Kong to finding a new city to call home in the United States and we are constantly having to address feelings of uncertainty, anxiety, fear, lack of clarity and the inability to appreciate and love the present moment.

Perhaps because of this, I am super excited to announce the launch of AWARE888 scarves on GoodieDo!  These scarves are not only simple, yet beautifully refined accessories, they are tools for healing as well.  How can a scarf heal??...I think I heard you say?  Here's how:

Each scarf is designed to promote one of five specific feelings of well being to address the lack of various fulfillment in our lives, using four complimentary techniques:

1. Mantras - each design has a simple mantra embroidered on it including Clarity, Amor (Love), Vita (Life), Grace, and Courage. The power of carrying a positive message with you throughout the day can replace the negative thoughts and emotions and invite positive change into your life.

2. Color Therapy - each design has a carefully chosen color to reflect the positive emotions associated with its mantra. For instance the green color of the Grace scarf encourages healing and compassion from the natural world and the Pink Passion color of the Amor scarf is said to create a positive shift in your heart center.

3. Healing Power of Crystals -  each design also has a small crystal sewn into the mantra embroidery. The crystal has also been chosen for its transformative powers associated with the corresponding mantra. For example the Silver Vita scarf is embellished with a Hematite crystal, which is known for its powers of transformation and is a symbol of life energy.

4. Reiki - each scarf has been blessed by a Reiki Master with positive healing energy. Reiki is a spiritual practice in which practitioners channel energy in the universe to others to help in self-healing and regaining equilibrium.

Chose one of the five different Aware888 scarf designs that speaks to you most...

White Clarity for clarity and balance (Hong Kong shop | Australia shop)

Silver Vita for intuition (Hong Kong shop | Australia shop)

Pink Amor for love of self and one's life (Hong Kong shop | Australia shop)

Green Grace for acceptance and compassion (Hong Kong shop | Australia shop)

Courage Sunburn for courage to take a giant ...or tiny... leap (Hong Kong shop | Australia shop)

They all sound good to me!!

What's more, these scarves are not only beneficial for you to wear, but they are also empowering women artisans in Northern Thailand to create a better lives fo

So in true GoodieDo spirit, we are GIVING AWAY one scarf this week to one of our lucky fans.  Here is all you have to do for a chance to win -r themselves and their family. Made in the spirit of honoring all living beings and with Fair Trade practices, you can feel amazing when you wear this scarf knowing that not only are you channeling positive energy and transformation for yourself but also for vulnerable women and their families.

1. Visit our Facebook page and Like Us!  If you enjoy hearing good news about people helping to make the world a better place and the ocasional giveaway of a great empowering ethically made product, then you have no reason not to join our little community of people who want to make a difference.

2. Post a comment below telling us what scarf you would like to receive and why. Do you need Courage because you want to start a new job or project? Do you want Amor because you feel like you could use more inspiration to love your life as it is?

3. Share with the people you love who could also use a chance to win a little positive transformation. It might reduce your chances to win, but you are spreading the love so more love and light will come your way. :)

So good luck, or shall I wish you good Clarity, good Vita, good Grace, good Courage and good Amor.

Candice

Are you Hungry for Change?

Belinda Philp - Thursday, March 29, 2012

"The problem is that we are not eating food any more we are eating FOOD 'LIKE" PRODUCTS and they are made to look better and smell better so that people are ATTRACTED to them"

The only problem with these FOOD LIKE products is they make you LESS ATTRACTIVE. "The marketing essentially LIES to you, because it presents you with the promise 'You are going to be sexy and popular and cool but in reality you're going to be OBESE and MISERABLE and SICK"

Care about your health?

Care about your well being not only now but the for the future?

Want to maintain your ZING?

It might be my age, that mid thirty bracket where you have a couple of kids and life is busy, or crazy sometimes. With little mini me's demanding more more more attention and love every second of your day. And you notice that your ZING isnt quite the zing it used to be. Everything is done quick these days, just to stop the crying or "Mummy can I have?'  You are already sleep deprived with little ones waking you up at night anyway and you just relate it to being a parent. You tell yourself "This is what it must be like for ALL parents?"

UNTIL you hit the wall! Or in my case are brought right back to reality of what life is meant to be about by watching FOOD MATTERS.

It is FREE to view until March 31st! Get instant access to watch it on the FOOD MATTERS website.

For me this movement has been life-changing, a slap to wake up and really LOOK AFTER myself.

In terms of :

  • Food
  • Sleep!!!! In bed by 10.30pm latest!
  • Nutrient Supplements
  • Outdoor activity/exercise
  • Healthy habits : Tea and Coffee is now herbal teas or an occasional brewed Chai tea

We have bought the Food Mattters Cookbook by Mark Bittman and cook or prepare raw food from it religiously. Preparing nutritious food is now FUN and EASY!

The kids temperaments have made a change for the better.

We have implemented many healthy snack rituals including:

  • Eating a carrot at bath time each night
  • Apples on a drive/ walk somewhere everyday
  • bananas, nuts, sultanas, flax crackers- homemade, popcorn- homemade
  • black strap molasses in milk instead of milo
  • parsley and coriander in the kids morning fresh juices
  • broccoli Tuesdays - as my daughter Chloe calls it- we just tell her it is Tuesday at least 3-4 nights a week
This 2nd Food Matters Film turns to the people and their personal stories with experts including Jamie Oliver who is seen pouring a WHEELBARROW OF SUGAR onto the stage at a TED TALK to indicate how much sugar children are consuming drinking flavored milk each day.

"We might as well be rolling up the kids sleeve and putting in heroin because it is the same"

says best selling women's health author, Dr Christiane Northrup.

I love the controversial issues surrounding our nutrition, there is constantly more and more great information linking ALL of today's modern diseases back to our food. And the best bit is, the CHOICE is completely up to you to take on board or to dismiss it.

To me it is a bit like saving for the future. If you do something now you will never have a drought. If you choose not to you will wish you had.

Steps to Better ZING!

  1. WATCH the NEW FOOD MATTERS Film  NOW while it's FREE! And make changes NOW Before you are really SICK!
  2. Buy a copy for someone you think will benefit greatly from it, you might just SAVE THEIR LIFE!
  3. Organize a RAW food dinner party with friends you love. Try serving freshly squeezed almond milk instead of beer....it is super tasty!
  4. Thank yourself for taking the time to actually CARE about yourself and your health

Wishing you loads of ZING, health and vigor!

If you were to CHALLENGE yourself.....

Belinda Philp - Thursday, February 16, 2012

Not a simple challenge like giving up coffee for a day or a week.

But a real physical, psychological challenge to stretch your own limited ideas about the necessities in life AND raise funds and awareness for a cause FAR bigger than yourself.

Would you choose to cycle 500kms in 7 days across undulating terrain in Cambodia to raise funding and awareness to stop the human Trafficking of women and children into sexual slavery?

Two extremely motivated and passionate women, Alison Price and Sue Beer, have joined forces with Project Futures Global- the company organizing the cycle to raise funds for the Somaly Mam Foundation.

A non profit organization set up by former child prostitute Somaly Mam. This is a woman with real courage and LOVE to make a difference in the world she sadly grew up in. Mam deserved to be voted Hero of the Year by CNN in 2006 and one of Time Magazines most influential people in 2009.

Alison Price Sue Beer  and   Somaly Mam uniting women globally!

The ride will visit the AFESIP Shelters set up by Somali Mam to support victims of human trafficking. And will coincide with International Women's Day- This year theme: 'Connecting Girls and Inspiring Futures'

A few disturbing facts about Sexual Slavery

  • Third largest criminal industry in the world. 1. Arms 2. Drug Dealing 3. Human Trafficking for slavery
  • Estimated revenue U.S. 9.5billion dollars.
  • Girls as young as 3 are sold into sex slavery for as little as $50US
  • Men are raping 5 and 6 year olds. Pimps are stitching them up and re-selling them as 'virgins'.
  • 1-2 million children will be sold into prostitution in the next 12 months

Today Mam has rescued over 6000 girls, she continues to raise funds to build more shelters, buy food, pay for rescue operations and to reintegrate victims into society with enough economic and emotional strength to face the future with hope. Sue's and Allison's fundraising efforts of $11,000 will be donated to this foundation.

Spots are limited with 20 places available for this ride.

Sue and Alison are community leaders in their own right as an International PreSchool supervisor and founder of 'Women in Charge' - an online business promoting women business owners. Both training  hard to take on a challenge beyond their current experience level to raise awareness and funds to unite the plight of women globally.

HELP to bring an END to Human Sex trafficking by:

  1. Leaving a motivating comment for Sue Beer and Alison Price and donating a couple of dollars toward their campaign.
  2. Register to do the Futures Global Ride for next year
  3. Share Sue and Allison's campaign pages with friends and relatives to raise awareness for this brutal human activity.
  4. Support the Somaly Mam Foundation

Get and Challenge yourself for GREAT causes! The world NEEDS YOU!

Belinda Philp - Thursday, January 05, 2012

Ok so in the theme of giving you FEEL GOOD news

Did you know that January the 21st is celebrated as NATIONAL HUG DAY in America, Canada, Russia and China?

With this short embrace Mann realized that a simple hug could do the trick to make people FEEL BETTER.

Check out his FREE HUGS CAMPAIGN  which resulted from this moment filmed in Sydney Australia.

Another Global Hugger doing Good things is Vincent Marx, writer, teacher and hugger in Japan.

Marx has travelled to 4 cities of Japan that had experienced disasters in the past and gave out FREE HUGS, he also collected messages of strength and love to take to the tsunami affected area Ofunato. Here he also gave the people of this devasted town FREE HUGS and shared the inspirational messages he had collected from the other 4 cities in Japan. Japan Times shared his story here.

In America Mr. U R Awesome is another person making people feel great though GIVING FORWARD!

So if HUGGING is so GOOD for you and makes you FEEL GREAT!
